Photography & Moving Image

BIO

Kava fell in love with photography at a young age. While traveling between New York City, where she grew up, and her home town in Poland, there was always a sense of nostalgia for the place where she was not. Photography became her way of capturing what she might otherwise yearn to see, and over time she built up an arsenal of iconography, connecting image to place and to people.
Kava further developed her practice around themes of colour, composition, identity, and a rearrangement of the familiar, such that we see it again for the first time, fresh with new reverence. Kava catches moments of relationship and spiritual intimacy, often within a playful narrative, and the result delivers a close look into who we are as a culture, what we desire and what we relinquish as we make our way through life.
Most recently, Kava has been working in film. Moving imagery is a natural progression from her still photography, and her directorial hand in film is assured with a romantic touch. In 2016, she released her first monograph, and in 2023, she produced her first short film, For tmrw. She has worked with global brands like Calvin Klein, Nike, Levi’s, Mercedes Benz, Sony, Supreme, Netflix, DKNY, and New York Times Magazine.
